 Eric Stead (Garages) Ltd was founded in 1967 by the late Eric Stead in a small repair workshop in Hillsborough, Sheffield.
He built up a reputation for extraordinary customer care in the very early days and that became the foundation for all that has developed since.
The business grew with a string of petrol stations (more often than not manned by members of the family!) and soon cars were being bought and sold from those outlets.
The current site at Ecclesfield was purchased in 1966, the Austin
franchise was attained and Eric Stead (Garages) Ltd became one of more than 25 BMC retail dealers in Sheffield.
The Franchise was retained through its various guises as many competitors failed to meet stringent sales and standards criteria until only 2 dealerships served Sheffield, Eric Stead MG Rover looking after the North of Sheffield and Wadham Kenning the South.
The demise of MG Rover provided the Company with its biggest ever challenge, how to maintain the level of care now expected of it, and stay in business. An early decision was made to underpin the commitments of MG Rover and honour warranty and service policies to people who had purchased cars from us for as long as we were able. The support shown to the family and the Company by its customers was nothing short of astounding, with some of our customers insisting on paying or contributing towards the cost of warranty work!
Whilst specialising in MG Rover we kept a watchful eye on possible opportunities and were delighted to be awarded the Hyundai franchise in November 2006 and look forward to furthering our reputation with them.
