MG Motor achieved impressive growth in 2025, achieving multiple awards, recognitions, and model releases over the course of the year. Ranked 10th as the best-selling brand for the second consecutive year, there’s no doubt that the motor company, and their many dealerships across the UK, have worked hard to accomplish the success they have seen.
To reflect on the notable achievements of the brand and our dealership, Eric Stead MG, we’ve created a lookback timeline for 2025.
January
One of MG’s most versatile ranges, including petrol and plug-in hybrid models, the MG HS SE and MG HS PHEV have won awards for their innovative designs and features as plug-in hybrid and family SUVs.

The MG HS Plug-in Hybrid made its global debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed during the previous summer, impressing the What Car? judging panel with its impressive, electric-only range of up to 75 miles. With its practical design and upmarket interior, the MG HS PHEV was awarded the title of ‘Plug-In Hybrid of the Year’, a title it would go on to win again in January of 2026.
Alongside the PHEV’s win, the petrol model of the range, the MG HS SE, was named ‘Best Family SUV for Value’. The affordable SUV was praised by judges for ‘raising the bar even higher with more equipment and functionality’, showcasing the car as a compelling choice for families and SUV owners alike.
February
Recognised as the first modern, all-electric convertible roaster for the mass market, the MG Cyberster quickly gained interest from eco-conscious drivers who have a taste for speed and style.
After a successful launch in September of 2024, Eric Stead MG handed the keys of a dynamic red Cyberster to Susan Mather. Her experience with the roadster prompted an interview with Eric Stead MG, where she recounts her first few months driving the sports car across the country from Scotland to Surrey, stating ‘It’s a car meant for fun!’

The Eric Stead MG team were thrilled with Susan’s enjoyment of the car, and thanked her for her kind words on their ‘straightforward and easy’ customer service.
March
With all-new features and a premium cabin design, the MGS5 EV was announced to debut in spring after much anticipation from the EV SUV market.
Following the success of the MG4 hatchback, the MGS5 EV utilised the same modular scalable platform (MSP), ensuring excellent dynamic performance on both city and open road terrain whilst providing superb range and enhanced space.

As a well-equipped SUV EV, the MGS5 EV challenged expectations whilst reinforcing MG’s strong commitment to offering competitive value in the EV market.
April
Reflecting on the first quarter of the year, MG Motor UK made significant progress with new vehicle registrations reaching 24,641, an increase of 6.5% on the same period of the previous year.
Growth was mainly driven by the popular MG ZS Hybrid+, which continued to perform strongly with 9,738 registrations, making it the seventh best-selling vehicle in the UK during that period.
May
- MG4 EV Retains Automotive Management Award
- MG HS Awarded Best Fleet Medium SUV for 2025
- MGS5 EV Achieves Highest Safety Rating
Following a quieter April in terms of award mentions and vehicle recognition, May brought a plethora of achievements for MG’s fleet.
The top-performing MG4 EV achieved its second Automotive Management award, remaining a top choice for first-time EV buyers since its initial release in 2022. 3 years on, the MG4 EV also gained the title of ‘Best Used EV of the Year’ in 2025, noted as ‘immense value’ by Editor of Automotive Management, Tim Rose.

Alongside the MG4 EV, the MG HS won Best Fleet Medium SUV for 2025 at the Great British Fleet Awards, with judges commending the vehicle for its low and busy lifestyle-friendly running costs and practical storage options.
Available in both Plug-in Hybrid and Petrol models, the MG HS have proven popular across many markets, and continues to be popular into 2026.
Prior to its arrival in showrooms, the MGS5 EV secured the highest possible safety rating from Euro NCAP in May, excelling in both adult and child occupant safety tests. The achievement highlighted the MGS5 EV’s focus on safety and easy driving, including MG’s added safety features within the MG Pilot system, featuring collision avoidance, lane safety, cruise control, and driving assistance features such as active emergency braking and blind spot detection.
June
In June, MG excelled in several areas, earning praise from Autocar for the high quality of its innovative product range and the exceptional value of its newly introduced models. The standout MG Cyberster received special recognition for its bold design and originality, being highlighted as the first electric vehicle roadster that emphasises enjoyment and style.

These achievements, along with many others during the first half of the year, led MG to receive the title of Best Manufacturer at the prestigious Autocar Awards 2025.

With impressive single-charge mileages and affordable price points, the MG IM5 and IM6 introduced innovative features like Rainy Night Mode and 4-mode One Touch Park Assist, raising the bar of EV cars to new heights.

The long-standing MG3 Hybrid+ also gained high praise in July of 2025 by once again being crowned Affordable Hybrid of the Year at the Auto Express 2025 New Car Awards. Recognised as the best vehicle across 25 categories, as well as the overall Car of the Year title for its affordability and prime choice for those purchasing their first EV car.

The strong demand for MG’s Hybrid+ models significantly contributed to the sales growth in 2025, aiding MG’s expansion in the 34 countries where it operates.
After another successful year, Eric Stead MG are proud to be an MG dealer, helping to achieve these significant milestones and bring affordable electric and hybrid vehicles to the UK public.
