Eric Stead MG’s good friend and long-standing customer, Gary Maskrey, got hands-on with MG’s all-electric SUV, the MG IM6, during an extended test drive to put the vehicle through its paces.
When searching for the right individual to test-drive the renowned EV, Eric Stead MG immediately thought of Gary as the prime candidate, having collected multiple MGs from the dealership over the years for himself, his daughter, and his wife. Leveraging his multiple years of EV driving experience, the dealership knew Gary would provide an unfiltered, practical review of the car, putting it through its paces during the driving tasks we all face day-to-day.
Here’s what Gary Maskrey had to say about his experience with the MG IM6 Launch Edition:
‘The first thing to say is that the driving position is superb, great visibility all round and even though the view out of the rear window is small you can access on the screen the camera to show what is happening behind. The technology is first class and very quick.the interior is very nicely put together with heated and ventilated seats, making for a comfortable journey and helped by the air suspension which is a big plus especially in the U.K. roads at present. The range on the is model is 313, in real terms I was seeing about 294, which is really good. The drive of the vehicle is very nimble and does possess a lot of power, but even at low speeds the car just beats miles, my journey was approx 150 miles and at the end I felt as good as when I started the journey.
As regards to the technology it consists of a 28” main screen and a 10” centre console that controls the major functions it is easy to navigate to set your driving setting you can set the cabin temp etc, I didn’t try the self park function, but particularly like the rainy night function where the 9 cameras aid your driving and help to create a better view of any dangers that may be close by including pedestrians.
I particularly liked the fast charging this model offers really fast charging at present higher than most of the chargers rates, it will go from 10% to 80% in about 20 mins on a 350kw charger, which is really impressive.
Overall the IM6 is a very spacious comfortable vehicle to drive offering plenty of driving options that made my journey a very pleasant one.’
