From initially opening in 1964, operating as a small repair garage with petrol pumps, through to present day where we are proud to be an MG UK sales and aftersales franchise, as well as stockist of a large selection of nearly new and used vehicles.

Our History
Eric Stead MG is a family run business that's been operating for 60 years, providing extraordinary customer care and service every step of the way.
1964
Eric Stead (Garages) Ltd was founded by Mr Eric Stead in 1964. This came after starting a motor repair business as a Sole Proprietor some years earlier.
1965
In 1965 Eric Stead purchased the current dealership premises. He was helped with administration by his sister, with finances by his brother, who was a Chartered Accountant, his wife Molly and his offspring - a true family business!
1965 - 2004
As the new premises incorporated a car showroom, the company took its first serious steps into car sales, taking on the Austin franchise. The Eric Stead name became synonymous with Austin through to MG Rover.
2005
MG Rover went into liquidation in 2005 - the event, along with the death of Eric Stead, threatened the survival of the company. However, the solid structure of the dealership that Eric Stead created allowed his successors to carry on.
2011
MG relaunch as MG Motor UK in 2011.
2015
In October 2015, Eric Stead topped the official Hyundai Customer Service Experience Survey for the manufacturer's dealers, after their customers gave them a 100% recommendation rating.
2018
In November 2018, Eric Stead MG was recognised for its exceptional commitment to Parts at the National MG Aftersales Dealer Recognition Awards.
2019
Eric Stead MG celebrate being awarded one of the top four MG Dealerships in the UK in February 2019.
2019
Awarded 'Highly Rated' for Customer Service by AutoTrader in July 2019.
2020
In January 2020, Eric Stead MG was awarded Aftersales Dealer of the Year at the MG Annual Dealer Conference.
2020
Awarded 'Highly Rated' for Customer Service by AutoTrader in July 2020.
2021
In January 2021, Eric Stead MG was crowned MG UK Aftersales Dealership of the Year for the second year running due to its consistently high-level of customer service.
2021
Eric Stead MG was awarded Platinum Dealer of the Year in February 2021 after seeing tremendous sales growth in 2020, a healthy plug-in car mix, and displaying pro-active marketing activity throughout the year.

In July 2021, Eric Stead MG were awarded 'Highly Rated' for Customer Service by AutoTrader.
